Miss Marple, ANYTIME that Jill saw OJ away from the house is important--you are correct but for an even more important reason that the noise behind Kato's house.
The GLOVE. Whatever that noise was or was not--they hung their hat on the glove being dropped at THAT time and no other.
Also, (Rose can be more clear on this than I) I think Jill had OJ in light colored clothing--not what Parks saw or thought he saw. So unless OJ had a black bathrobe in the Bronco and put it on coming up to the house--there was another thing screwed on their theory.
I think there was some question about what the time really was because of Jill's car clock but perhaps thru the use of surveillance video at the grocery store (to check out her story) they learned the actual time.
The more that separated OJ from that glove behind the house--the more their case was screwed.
Then they would be in the business of explaining how it got there.
