The problem with both the 800 and the pay as you go with the phone companies is that at some place with the computers--they might could look up and retrieve the calls--but it would have to be done. If not, no record would publicly exist.
As to calls you did not make---they have people who do nothing but "track' those kinds of calls...at least on a land line.
I am not sure about a cell phone if they can do that since it is not land line based. My sister has also done that job as well--also the phone dumps.
What about that stuff we heard about in NYC. Not sure how it worked but was a big problem for a while. They could hack in somehow and use the cell phone number of somebody else and the person would end up with all these long distance--usually overseas calls.
I think in all the cases where the phone company wasn't used but a service--the cops would have to first know you even had a cell phone and then locate how you got your service to even begin.
Stolen cell phones from the evidence room would have to be still in service somehow or used with prepaid cards, etc. However, I don't think Tracephone has been in existence since 94. No names exchanged from that but you do have to sign up from your home number--or the same number each time--they wouldn't know if it were you home phone or not.
Perhaps there is some kind of "history of cell phones" on the Internet.
