In the last few years phone calls that are long distance have gone DOWN in cost due to competition from the various long distance companies.
However, in 94, this was before all of that got started..or at the least isn't what it is now.
There are plans you can get now --for a fee--that you are only charged 5 cents a minute or 10 cents a minute and less as John pointed out in the other post.
Back then, it was very common to call, get the machine, hang up and be charged for a minute. And if you did leave a message it could easily be the minute and 6 seconds that someone mentioned and be charged for 2 minutes.
Many of the calls on the Brown's bill for the 13th are for 1 or 2 minute calls. Many 1 minute calls which could easily be the message machine came on and it was a hang up and no message left.
In CA, where it is usual to go just a few miles and have another area code for the long distance, it is more than odd that the Browns have so few calls to start with the morning they learn of their child's death--but that none are to Germany or to Texas or out of state at all.
The one we do know of--the Kris Jenner--was to someone that Nicole had not been close to for several years. Surely, there were other people that the Browns (Lou, Judy, Denise, Tanya) knew all over the state that they wanted to call--esp to LA.
The Browns went up and down that road--Denise to work--all the time. They kept that road hot going back and forth. Wouldn't Denise want to call her place of employment for example and say she wouldn't be in that weeK?
To me this is just more proof that the phone bill is not just inaccurate but incomplete.
And as I said before--there is a very noticeable lack of calls about the kids.
They didn't ask about them. We never heard that Arnelle said AC was bringing them down (as a matter of fact, Arnelle had not spoken to her father yet nor had the police).
If Arnelle called them back and told them that AC would be bringing the kids down--I never heard of it.
And although it was a murder---the Browns might have been a bit concerned about the "arrangements" and when they could get the body to the funeral home, etc. That didn't seem to happen either
