One unusual thing about Fred Dwyer and this case.
He "may" not have bought the tapes for actual use but he ODDLY did a tv movie at the time of the trial where he played a cop (not Hunter I don't think) and Barry Bostwick (sp) played a pro basketball player who was accused of killing his wife--at her front door!
There was even a 911 call from the wife saying that the ex-husband (Barry B) was at the front door--which he was. They had a slight history of spouse abuse...when he was drinking.
They had the crowds surrounding the house, BB couldn't leave. He was getting killed in the press. He was believed to have done it. There was only one child, I believe involved in the marriage.
At any rate, it ended up that Barry B. was NOT guilty (keep in mind this came out before the trial was over).
If I remember correctly, the woman was stabbed or perhaps shot--I think stabbed. And BB's DNA and fingerprints were everywhere.
In this case, a "fan" was the killer. He showed up after BB left--he had been stalking BB and his wife and killed her.
In the movie, Dwyer made a big apology to BB for the hell he went through.
It was so close to the OJ case it was spooky. The media vans outside the house, the fans standing around. 24 hour coverage, etc.
It is almost "too odd' that Dwyer is "interested" in MF's screenplay and ends up doing a movie of the week about the BIG ATHLETIC STAR being Innocent.
Could it be--like Michelle Caruso--that when an outside party hears the tapes---they realize right away that they are NOT a screenplay at all?
It could well be that Dwyer's people contacted the Defense after hearing the tapes.
And everybody that I know who saw the Bailey/Fuhrman exchage has remarked to me about how Clark and Lewis reacted to the question--and MF's long time in answering.
Clark and Lewis didn't act surprised by the question, or puzzled or even angry---they looked floored--and were holding their breath waiting to see what Fuhrman would answer.
I have always believed had Fuhrman actually gone to trial for perjury and everything that he lied about come out---this would have been one of the things that Bailey could have fried him on.
BTW, Clark's ex is the one who told the media a cop was involved--she never denied it---and the records are sealed.
