I agree with you in almost every respect…maybe every respect (you will find his "insurance policy" in his notes as well).
Where I would make a sharp distinction in what you wrote is with Fuhrman’s emotions. He feels things very deeply – when they concern Mark Fuhrman, the only person in the universe he truly cares about. His emotional outbursts often get him into trouble. Internalizing the emotions of others is something he simply cannot do. I don’t think he even understands the concept of empathy. That’s where he becomes as cold as a fish. Yeah, the looking-into-the-mirror scene grabbed me, too. Look for it in Murder in Greenwich where the retired cop driving the “limo” from the train station looks into his mirror. You see the driver’s eyes but he’s looking at Fuhrman in the backseat.
The “skin deep” thing gets supper creepy when Fuhrman talks about love, friendship and compassion. He reminds me of the “Fuck You” lizard who greeted me unexpectedly one morning in Southeast Asia, saying familiar words like a warm-blooded human with no clue as to what they meant to the real warm-blooded human he was “talking” to. –Jasper
