There are 4 suits in Tarot Cards, each representing areas of life. Coins are of couse money, Cups are good things-good luck, Stafts are work. Swords are strif. There is not really a grain, although some of the cards have grain picture, especially since farming was a big part of work. These suits are called the minor arcanna.
More important is the major arcana. Each card is a meaning in itself. ie the magician is a young man. The empress is the married woman, Death card is rebirth or new beginning, the wheel is what comes around goes around, etc.
The zero card is the Fool and the deck begins and ends with the Fool. It is believed that they where a teaching means for people who where teaching a religion that was forbidden. The Major arcana is the trip of the fool-representing the life from a child to the end or back to the fool.
I think that it is probable that the eastern star and the tarot cards are more related in that they both picked up on some symbols that used at the time, than a direct relation. Either coming out or using the others symbols.
Edison's winter home has a statue that is from one of the tarot cards. It is the Aquarian Card and is of a girl puring water out of an urn. The meaning of both is pouring of knowledge and has nothing to do with water but of air.
Ringling's (the circus guy) winter home is full of symbols taking from occult_meaning hidden knowledge.
