I have found that there are few murder mystery movies, or even just mystery movies that don't somehow lead right back to Furhman. It also goes with his time at home during his disabilty. He had lots of time to watch these movies and plan his crime so it worked out as close to how he wanted it, with several options just in case. Actually, so many back up plans that catching him was almost impossible in regards to the Justice System. Had some of his actions been not covered up, he'd be in jail, not become famous and rich.
