I, too, read that bit from Vannatter and Lange’s Evidence Dismissed. I dismissed it because it didn’t make sense. It still doesn’t make sense – except as s cover for who really made the identification.
There is no indication that any of the neighbors was escorted to the crime scene. How, then, could any of them “tentatively” identify the dead woman as Nicole when the officers who knocked on their doors didn’t have a picture of her face? Assuming that someone did move back her hair to see what she looked like, are we supposed to assume that the officers gave such a good verbal description that the neighbors could tell who she was by what the officers said?
Nicole was blonde and she lived there. But Faye Resnick also had blonde hair at the time she lived there. How could the neighbors know that the police weren’t describing Faye or that Denise hadn’t recently colored her hair? How could they know that it wasn’t the body of someone Ron had brought with him? And how could anyone who knew Nicole and Ron have identified her without identifying him?
Moreover, how does the “official” identification of Nicole’s body AFTER Lange and Vannatter conducted their detailed crime-scene search square with Commander Bushey’s testimony? Bushey testified that Phillips called him at 2:30 to tell him that Nicole’s body had been found (identified). That’s when he told Phillips that RHD would be taking over and ordered him to make “official” notification to O.J. Vannatter didn’t get there until 4:05. Lange arrived twenty minutes later.
Between 2:30 and 4:05 Fuhrman, Roberts and Phillips were supposedly doing nothing. Vannatter went out of his way not to mention Fuhrman’s role in the original search warrant application. The prosecution tried to hide Fuhrman altogether. Yet, he was the most logical person to make the identification.
Fuhrman knew what Nicole looked like. He had an official reason for being on the crime scene. He is the ONLY one who could have identified Nicole but not Goldman at the time Phillips called Bushey to tell him that NICOLE’S body had been found. –Jasper
