During the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearing he claimed that he didn’t discuss the Roe v. Wade abortion case when he was in law school – a Catholic law school – a case that made headlines when he was in law school discussing big cases with fellow students.
Bullshit.
There is so much public information about the Moxley case that was written by Dunne before he wrote A Season in Purgatory and so many references to that information in Fuhrman’s involvement in the Bundy murders that there has to be a connection. These were the kinds of people Fuhrman was most interested in and the kinds of cases that he had documented ambitions about being involved in for as far back as 1976.
To paraphrase your observation about the “coincidences” in these cases that intersect with Dunne and Fuhrman, it’s the frequency, the specificity and the apparent conflicts of interest that got my attention. With Dunne the apparent conflict of interest was his association with Michael Skakel’s lawyer. With Fuhrman it was his association with Michael Baden in establishing a “possible” time of death that Fuhrman turned into “the” time of death. That’s not what Baden said but it worked.
The conflict of interest I see is the credibility that Baden risked and the credibility he bestowed upon Fuhrman by working with him. Fuhrman tried to get Henry Lee but Lee turned him down. Why would Baden lend his good name to the efforts of a racist and a liar to connect Martha’s murder to a Skakel? As Robert Kennedy Jr. noted, that was Fuhrman’s clear aim from the beginning. With Dorothy Moxley at the controls of the Fuhrman-Baden relationship it doesn’t look like a conflict of interest or a coincidence. Only it wasn’t Dorothy’s idea to bring in Fuhrman; it was Dominick Dunne’s. –Jasper
