You have to put Bushey's testimony in the context of when it was given. He was called in the prosecution's rebuttal, to confirm that the cops were "ordered" by him to go to Rockingham, and that O.J. was not a suspect at the time.
The testimony he gave about the time of the phone call and details about the Simpsons' custody agreement were details that came out in the cross, and details that were not further discussed because this happened in the middle of "the fuhrman tapes debacle", and it somehow drowned there.
