I did some research on the fireman and contacting the neighbors. This is what I found.
In Riske’s testimony, he states that the police did go to neighboring houses and ask people if they heard anything.
A OFFICER CUMMINGS WAS MAINTAINING CONTROL OF THE CRIME SCENE LOG, WHO ARRIVED AND WHO LEFT. OFFICER GONZALEZ AND ASTON WERE KNOCKING ON THE NEIGHBORS' DOORS, SEE IF THEY HEARD OR SAW ANYTHING. OFFICER TERRAZAS WAS IN THE BACK GUARDING THE BACK. Q GUARDING THE BACK? A THAT'S CORRECT. OFFICER SANCHEZ WAS GUARDING THE FRONT WITH SERGEANT COON AND I BELIEVE GLORIOSO AND ZEIGLER WERE ALSO KNOCKING ON DOORS.
However, Riske’s testimony does not tell us what time the officers went to the neighbors, although he seems to imply it was before Fuhrman and Phillips arrived.
From Storfer’s testimony, we get a better idea of the time the police canvassed the neighborhood.
Q ABOUT WHAT TIME DID THIS OFFICER TALK TO YOU? A ABOUT 2:20 A.M. Q 2:20? A APPROXIMATELY.
Riske indicates in his testimony that he requested an ambulance and additional units after initially viewing the bodies
Detective Lange in the Preliminary Hearing indicates a captain from the fire department was at the scene.
Q Now, you indicated that in the log a captain of the Fire Department did show up on the scene and it was indicated in your log that he was not needed. Is that correct? A Yes. Q Does it indicate in your log how long he was at the scene? A If I could consult the log. Q Certainly. A The log indicates he was at the scene for five minutes.
Sargent Rossi identifies this captain as “CAPTAIN ZEALMAN FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT” on 2/14.
On July 8th, Dr. Golden testified Nicole was pronounced dead by the fire department. Q In reviewing their findings regarding nicole Simpson, were you informed that she was found and pronounced dead by a member of the Los Angeles fire department, engine 19 squad? A Okay. I guess -- I can't find the relevant page in my protocol here. Yes. I found it. Q Take your time. A Yes. LAFD, engine 19 -- pronounced by LAFD
One wonders why Riske was never asked about Zealman and when this fire captain arrived?
