I agree. The prosecution had ample reason not to call Nicole’s maid to the witness stand. What I wonder about is way the defense didn’t call her. Then again, it may have been for the same reason that they didn’t call Sylvia. Was Nicole’s maid an American citizen, a legal alien or an undocumented worker like Sylvia who might be pressured into lying under oath? Was everyone afraid that something would come out of her testimony about illegal drug use?
My personal take on why the defense didn’t call her is because O.J.’s lawyers simply didn’t believe him when he said that he was no a spouse abuser. From the start they put pressure on him to “confess” his “real” sin so that his denial of murder would be more credible. The one mark against him with the psychologist who said he did not fit the profile of a spouse abuser WHO WENT ON TO MURDER HIS SIGNIFICANT OTHER was that he refused to “admit” that he did abuse Nicole.
Speaking of other silent witnesses, lets not forget Michelle. Why didn’t the defense call her to testify about the baseball bat incident and the New Years Day incident?
The prosecution did interview Rolf and Maria Baur (Nicole’s cousin and his wife) who worked as a garden and a housekeeper respectively from 1980 to 1984. Neither of them saw evidence that O.J. ever abused Nicole. Maria told prosecution investigators that Nicole was the only one she saw displaying violent fits of temper. Rolf said that the picture on Nicole’s “battered” face was taken by her father years before Denise said that she took the picture. O.J. said that it was makeup for a movie. There is no evidence to suggest that it was anything else. --Jasper
