It is the rare thing here that the fire trucks don't come for an emergency medical call.
When I called recently to get help getting my Mom up from where she fell at 3;30 in the Am, they didn't come. But I had specifically said she was NOT injured--she just couldn't get up.
I have seen a call on the side of the road for an ill child in a car and both the fire truck and ambulance came. The firetruck was used to block traffic to the car and the ambulance.
Both arrive as I said for car accidents and all other things that I have seen.
I can't say for LA because I have seen many many articles since that time (starting shortly thereafter) about lawsuits and other things because the ambulance, etc. did not arrive for 20-40 minutes even in a dire emergency and in some cases the late arrival contributed to the person's death.
They may lack the facilities to travel with the ambulances.
I notice on Third Watch that the fire truck does not arrive WITh the ambulance. The ambulance appears to be independent of the fire trucks.
The fire trucks don't arrive unless they are called for assistance.
