Rose,
Remember, the bloody shoeprints did not go all the way to that alley -- which makes you wonder how the bloody shoeprint could have gotten in the Bronco if it was parked in the alley. The shoeprints faded to nothing long before then. It was the direction they were headed, the cluster of coins and the blood drop near the alley that created the illusion that the killer went all the way to the alley. I say the killer parked in the garage and Nicole’s Jeep was later moved to make it appear that he couldn’t have driven in and out of there (thus no serious attempt to investigate Nicole’s missing garage door opener).
I don’t think the police contacted Karp or Stein because Phillips or Fuhrman told them that the detectives would handle those sensitive chores when Roberts and Nolan arrived. Ditto, the Taylors.
When I say “the police,” I’m talking about the patrolmen who were there before Phillips and Fuhrman arrived. It had to have been either Phillips or Fuhrman who sent the patrolmen to knock on doors shortly after they arrived at 2:10. Most likely it was Fuhrman’s idea because he was the investigator and it was a routine request, and Phillips who gave the order because he was the supervisor. By the time Phillips arrived such routine matters would have already been taken care of (Storfer was contacted before 2:30, so we know that it wasn’t Vannatter or Lange. They arrived after 4.00.
Riske’s testimony about checking the alley between Dorothy and Gorham together with Linedecker’s description of Heidstra “behind Nicole’s condo” (O.J. A to Z) is what got me into trouble with my drawing of the murder scene in Iago. It wasn’t until you sent me Dick’s drawing of the Bundy curve that I knew Gorham did not intersect with the alley. He might have intended to say Montana or to give a shorthand version of “the area where Gorham would be if the alley intersected it.”
The timeline exercise you suggested is something that Miss Marple and I did on the Knowledge Base board with Fuhrman’s alleged second visit to Bundy (see Partners). We did something similar with the 911 tapes. This is the sort of thing I set up that board to do so the information we gain wouldn’t get lost from month to month postings but I couldn’t get anyone else interested enough in the idea to pursue it. The new posts don’t come to the top or the bottom the way they should (they fall somewhere in the middle) and I never bothered to fix it. I should have said something in the introduction about “systematic problems solving.” Maybe that would have helped.
Anyhow, I’m all for nailing down the time of the door knocking the way you suggested. We could also start a new thread here devoted to that one subject. Either way is fine with me. –Jasper
