The murder was committed in 1982 about the time Ron Shipp was transferred to Downtown LA. He had developed some expertise in domestic violence. I do not think there is any doubt that John Sweeney strangled Dominique Dunne and she had been a victim of domestic violence. Was Shipp called into the case? I think it would be interesting to know. Also, Roberts is older than Fuhrman. Could he have been a detective at the scene?
As Miss Marple has pointed out either here or on AFOJS, Dunne appeared to have some connection to "Leo". A connection maybe made when Dunne's daughter was killed. Shipp would have met Fuhrman in 1987 or 1988. Maybe Shipp discussed with Fuhrman his encounter with the writer Dunne, which interested Fuhrman. Just speculation.
