Nobody knows better than I do what a great scenario it is for a cop to plan cutting the hand or finger of someone he wanted to frame in the process of handcuffing him. That’s why I used it in Messiah, the third book in my Random Factor sci-fi trilogy. I didn’t get the idea from Springer. I got it the same WAY he did, by imagining how such a cut could be inflicted for such a purpose by a killer-cop. It was the only thing I could think of that might work. But for practical reasons that the killer or a group of LAPD conspirators had no control over, I’m sure that wasn’t the plan with O.J.
O.J.’s cut seemed like such a huge coincidence, and his story about accidentally cutting himself at his home and AGAIN in Chicago was so absurd that I just couldn’t buy it (one whopping coincidence, ok; two of them no way). The bloody glove left at Bundy without a corresponding cut was also too much of a coincidence for me to swallow if O.J. really did do it. That’s why I hung onto O.J. as a suspect for as long as I did and way I didn’t rule out the possibility that he was framed.
A real coincidence is a real possibility, however remote – but not two of them that directly contradict each other. One of them had to be contrived and it had to be done without much time to prepare. O.J.’s deep Chicago cut fits the pattern of a contrived event – something that he did on purpose in a panic hoping that the police wouldn’t find the blood until he got home with a bloody finger that he could prove he cut in Chicago.
The truth did not seem reasonable, but the shallow cut that left O.J.’s real blood trail in small drops on Rockingham proved that he could not have left the blood trail on Bundy with the big, directionless cuts. This is the contradictory coincidence that can’t be true if O.J. really did cut himself on Rockingham.
The geometry of the Rockingham blood drop pattern as well as the direction of the droplets leading out of the gate (see Blood Trails animation), support his alibi, a fact that he still doesn’t know. This means that he did cut himself on Rockingham, without knowing exactly when or how, only a half hour before the murders and the killer knew it. Therefore the killer knew that he had to do something to take away O.J.’s blood trail ALIBI and turn it into incriminating evidence against him.
The “Naked Gun” cap combined with the bloody, size 12 shoeprints was already too much evidence in one place. The glove right next to the cap was WAY too much. The left-hand glove had to be left at Bundy, as opposed to both of them on Rockingham, to explain why it wasn’t cut in the same place as O.J.’s finger. The false blood trail (big and round) on Bundy also had to be planted to link it to the real blood trail on Rockingham.
These are the actions of someone with imperfect knowledge making LAST MINUTE ADJUSTMENTS to a plan. The wet transfer stains on bindle #47 (Bundy walkway leading to the back) showed the same pattern of an imperfect, last minute adjustment by someone with imperfect knowledge of how the blood tests were made. –Jasper
