I think that you are absolutely right. Nicole and Ron were both obviously dead. There was no point doing what he said he did except to cover himself for reporting a double HOMICIDE in case the defense called the paramedics to the witness stand.
Riske was actually in a tight spot as far as testifying was concerned. It looks to me as though he tried to go by the book (until Fuhrman showed up) but couldn’t always do it. As a soldier I was often faced with situations where “the book” said one thing and the reality of the situation said something else. There were also times when “the book” said you had to do two things and the situation forced you to choose one. It has to be the same with patrol officers.
If there was any chance in hell that Ron or Nicole could have been alive I’m sure that Riske would have stomped all over the blood evidence to see what he could do for them. On the other hand once it was clear to him that they were beyond help, he had to make sure that NOBODY, including the paramedics, went into the killing cage until the detectives showed up.
The shoeprints photographed in the courtyard did not match anyone on the scene after Riske and Terazas arrived. Therefore nobody went into that scene before those photos were taken. Afterwards there were all kinds of people in there, which is when Riske saw Ron’s open eyes… for the first time.
Oh, while I’m thinking about it, I want to make a correction. The wet transfers stains were on the bindle. They came from the wet swatch inside. -- Jasper
