I was astonished by some of the things Gonzalez said about the detective's at Rockingham - the things that he hadn't been prepped to answer. Phillips suggested that Arnelle was inside of the house when Lange told her about Nicole's murders because he was talking to O.J. on the phone at the same time. Vannatter and Lange put her outside on the Rockingham driveway when Lange broke the bad news to her. Otherwise, Lange, Phillips and Vannatter tell pretty much the same story of their primary interest in O.J.'s safety, the story that gave them "probable cause" to enter O.J.'s property without an invitation or a warrant. There is no room here for "Fuhrman the manipulator." This is all "Joe Friday" stuff right down the line.
Check out this passage on page 25 of Evidence Dismissed:
"Arnelle continues to ask the detectives, 'What's the matter? What's going on?'
"Phillips replies, 'Let's call Cathy Randa to see where he is, and make sure he's okay.'
"Arnelle calls Randa. Lange can hear Arnelle saying, 'Oh, okay… My Dad's in Chicago…. Oh, man…Fine. He sees her jot something down on a sheet of paper. Hanging up the telephone, Arnelle breathes a sigh of relief and says, 'Everything's cool.' She gives Phillips the piece of paper with the telephone number for Simpson's hotel in Chicago, the O'Hare Plaza. He had flown there the night before.
"Lange and Phillips are relieved, as well. Since he is obviously in Chicago, they do not go upstairs to his bedroom or conduct any search of the house.
"Arnelle continues, 'But what's going on?'
"'Let's go and talk,' Lange says as he takes her through a sunroom, adjacent to the kitchen and out into the driveway. 'This has to do with Nicole. I'm very sorry to tell you this, but she's been killed in her home.'"
The detectives were outside of Arnelle's bungalow door where Gonzalez could see and hear what was going on when they first asked her if she knew where her father was. According to Gonzalez, she went outside and concluded he wasn't in the house BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T SEE HIS BRONCO (where he usually parked it on Ashford). Arnelle skipped that detail. She said only that she thought O.J. was out of town. She had to call Kathy Randa to get the facts. She didn't call Randa until AFTER she went to her car to retrieve her phone book.
First, Lange and Phillips brought her to the front gate and showed her the Bronco on Rockingham. That's when she decided that O.J. must have been out of town. It was then, according to Gonzalez who apparently had followed them to the front yard, that one of the detectives told Arnelle about the murders and she began to get hysterical. Kathy Randa testified that Arnelle was "hysterical" when she called. She didn't say what happed. She just handed Randa the phone.
Now who was telling the truth about that sequence of events, Lange, Vannatter and Phillips or Arnelle, Randa and Gonzalez? Meanwhile Vannatter was in the kitchen with Kato looking for spare keys to the Bronco. Fuhrman was behind the garage. What does he hear before he "finds' the bloody glove? What did he find in the kitchen when he was on his way out of the door? A set of Bronco spare keys perhaps? And one more thing…Where was Roberts? --Jasper
