Another bulls eye…
Believing that O.J. is innocent IS a scary proposition for most people. Just think of the emotional investment they made in O.J.'s guilt. Think of what they said about those of us who didn't think he was guilty. Many people wanted to see him executed. Some said that they would have gladly done it themselves. Think of the racial stereotype that so many people were comfortable with as explanation enough for his motive and the contempt they showed for the intelligence and morality of the "the black jury" that acquitted him. More racial stereotypes.
The "black jury" stereotype is probably the hardest one to face up to. Like children whose parents are not 100 percent white, the minority of "white blood" in the jury pool made the white jurors subject to the same labels given to the "black" majority as long as they were in agreement on the prosecution's failure to prove its case.
A large minority of white people got a taste of "the black experience" (the assumption that they were intellectually and morally inferior to white people) by their agreement with the majority of blacks. To believe that O.J. is innocent is to admit that the belief in his guilt had a hell of a lot to do with racism. Now that's scary. --Jasper
